Ashray Akruti is a registered nonprofit, non-religious, Non- Government organization working for people with disability with a focus on children with hearing loss. Established in Hyderabad in the year 1996, the organization implements projects across health,education and skill development to improve the lives of people with Disability or ‘Divyangjan’,as named by the Government of India.
‘Ashray’ means shelter and ‘Akruti’ means shape. True to the meaning of these words, Ashray Akruti has been offering shelter and shaping the lives of children and youth with hearing loss for the past two decades. The organization started its first special school in the year 1996 and has grown to address the multi-dimensional needs of this marginalized section in the society. Ashray Akruti, as on today, directly implements 10 projects in the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh touching the lives of many children and youth with disabilities.
Ashray Akruti firmly believes in the potential of persons with disability and envisages a society where people with disability lead a life of dignity with equitable access to opportunities and services.
The organization works with people at the grass root level implementing interventions like free Special Education,Primary ear and hearing health care, Cochlear Implant Surgeries,Auditory Verbal Therapy and training in Multimedia and Computer Animation.
